Since its first introduction in America in 1991, laser eye surgery has reported millions and millions of successes. Advertisements are popping up all over the place promoting the procedure. So far, though I have not heard of any bad tales or any lawsuits against the industry, I live in wait. Sadly, I don’t think it will be long.  I am like most people, I need a little bit more proof before I jump in for laser surgery and maybe reshape my eyeballs. Do you think they would look good on me?
Apparently my low prescription, being nearsighted, makes me perfect for this type of laser therapy. Again, like you, I sit in wait for concrete proof that this is totally safe. I plan on waiting decades if need be to see the affects on people’s eyes. It seems that the normal lengthy research and assessment of these types of surgical procedures has been waived quick fix versus safety?
Be aware though that all medical procedure and surgeries can have complications. Laser surgery is no exception. A few patients are suffering double vision or a halloing after surgery. Warning sign? Well keep in mind of course that once its done, the procedure is irreversible. No way back, people! Those annoying side effects may be with you forever, right? Only time will tell, of course.
The cost of laser therapy has dropped considerably and is much more affordable. When I say affordable, it is still pricey. You could buy a decent used car for the price. Is it a sign of better competition or simply a laxing of standards? It is after all a very young market. I strongly believe in what you pay for, you get. This has never failed me. Personally, I question whether a discounted price means discounted surgery. How are the costs being cut? Something has to have been eliminated from the mix. What are they skimping on? Safety? Are they risking people’s long-term eyesight? Frankly, if anything, you should be asking these very questions. I would. I absolutely am!
My advice is to wait some years before I even consider the procedure. I err on the side of caution and prefer to suffer my nearsightedness a little bit longer. It may well be that laser therapy is the golden egg laid by golden geniuses, but I will hang on because I am not willing to gamble with my sight.
