Indoor Tanning: Blessing Or Curse?
The indoor tanning industry is growing at a steady rate since the 1980’s. It has incredible growth potentiality, but what trouble the industry are the reports of indoor tanning causing skin cancer. The supporters, on the other hand, say that the opposite is true – tanning actually prevents the spread of Melanoma, the most dreaded skin cancer in the world. Just remember that research in this field is rapidly changing, so you should further explore the issue before going to a tanning bed or opening a tanning franchise business.
The benefits of indoor tanning is vast; the first being that, since it is regulated to a certain extent, you can never be overexposed, because serious problem can be caused in case of tanning the natural way. You cannot control how much harmful rays the sun is giving out, but you can avoid them totally in indoor tanning. The tanning here is uniform and equally spread all over the exposed skin, but when you go for tanning outside, there is no guarantee that you will get a uniform tan. Another big argument against tanning was that it “cooks the inside of the people if left for long”. This urban myth was totally busted by the hugely popular Discovery Channel Show, “Myth Busters”, which successfully showed that tanning salons only tan the outer skin layer and cannot penetrate inside the body.
But there are things that indoor tanning can never give but sunlight can give like Vitamin D. Sunlight is the best source of this important vitamin that is linked to the absorption of calcium in the body. Calcium is essential for the growth of bones and teeth. So, natural tanning processes, besides giving you a good tan, boost the calcium in the body. Recent studies have also suggested that Multiple Sclerosis can be halted with exposure to sun. Hence, it can be easily said that indoor tanning can never truly replace the benefits of getting sunlight, but it can help you to avoid all the negative side-effects of sun exposure. That is why it is such a growing industry!
