Our fingernails are an amazingly unique part of our body and they can tell us several good and bad factors about our overall health. Our nails are made up of what is called keratin. Keratin is one of the very important proteins that contribute to what builds up our body chemistry and physical being. One of the reasons that humans have nails is for protection of the end of our finger tips and toes from accidental injuries, but they are also there to help us in picking up small objects. It has only been within the last 100 years that our nails have become more of a beauty and aesthetics.
You may be a person who just doesn’t have a lot of time for pampering yourself and even less in getting regular manicures and pedicures. Maybe you just didn’t know how to properly care take your nails, but with setting aside just a few minutes on a regular basis, there is not a lot of extra effort needed. The most very important step is to keep your nails clean and free of grime. A quick swift wash and scrubbing with a small nail brush and mild soapy water on a regular basis can do small wonders and keep your nails looking comfortably presentable along with keeping infections and fungus’s away.
When your time allows and you are wanting to do a little more for your nails besides just good hygiene, with a few extra steps, your nails will look even healthier. Start by soaking your hands for several minutes in warm water to soften the cuticles. Then very gently push back the cuticles when they have become long and ragged. Carefully trim the nails to the same length and remove any extra snags or spiky pieces of skin around the edges of each nail. A quick nail filing will smooth any sharp edges and ends of your nails so there is not a chance to accidentally rip or tear your nails or cuticles by getting them caught on things. For the comfort and goodness of your hands and nails, apply a light and gentle hand cream on a regular basis.
Nails really can tell you some important things about your general health. Take a moment to examine your nails. Do your nails show healthiness and strength, or do you see ridges, or areas of unusual color? Changes in your nails can show signs of some various illnesses. Your doctor can use your nails for setting a direction of what may be going on with your health.
