May 26th, 2008 · No Comments

People used to be told that tea can cause bad breath. However, recent studies have shown that drinking tea can eliminate bad breath. Tea contains a certain compound known as polyphenols. This chemical can help fight halitosis in a few ways. If you are looking for the most effective type of tea, go for black tea. Apparently, polyphenols are present in greater quantities in black tea than green tea. This could be due to the extra process that black tea has to undergo- oxidization.

However, do not be too concerned about whether you should drink more black tea than green tea. Even low amount of polyphenols are found to be able to prevent the growth of anaerobic oral bacteria which is the major cause of bad breath. In fact, researchers do advise rinsing your mouth with tea for at least 30 seconds to have optimal results.
