Discover Red Lipstick This Season

From Marilyn Monroe to Gwen Stefani, red lipstick has long been a trademark of female sex appeal, and we all know a girl that just seems at home in red lipstick no matter what time of day or what season. For the rest of us that don't feel quite as comfortable with blazing red lips there a way to sport red lipstick a little less brazenly. Everyone can wear red lipstick, from the fiery redhead to the darkest brunette; it's a matter of doing a little research.

Less Is More

Because red lipstick is so bold a color, you want to try and find a happy medium somewhere in between just rolled out of bed lips and burlesque dancer ready for the show lips. Experiment with different shades and find one that goes well with your skin tone. Then, start with one layer and work your way up until you find what looks best. If you're not sure, bring a friend along to help! They'll be viewing you the same way everyone else will, so they can give you a good outside opinion of whether or not a shade is right for you. You never know, you might be able to go bolder than you think!

Think Work Appropriate

Your makeup should usually look a little more understated at work than for a night out on the town, and this goes double for red lipstick. Choose a lighter shade for day or try applying one layer and then blotting it with a makeup sponge. The effect is that your lips look stained red instead of caked with heavy lipstick. It's more natural and much more work appropriate! Friday night out, or whatever night you choose, have fun, glam it up, and take advantage of your red lipstick research after office hours are over.

For The Extremely Timid

Have you tried every shade of red lipstick and still don't think it's for you? You don't have to give up just yet. There are endless brands of lip-glosses in every shade of red you can imagine, and you'll be able to find one that suits you and doesn't make you feel self-conscious. Glosses don't last as long either so you're not committed for the entire day as can be the case with some of the long lasting lipsticks out there right now. Whatever you decide, don't stress out over it. Makeup should enhance our natural assets and make us feel more comfortable about ourselves, but most of all, it should be fun.
